The Belmont House Foundation is committed to protecting donor privacy as well as the confidentiality of the personal information it holds. For that reason, our Foundation has taken a number of steps to ensure that this information is protected so that the relationship of trust between the donor and the Foundation is upheld.
The Foundation’s Policy sets out rules for the collection, use, disclosure and retention of personal information. These rules are based on ten internationally recognized privacy principles.

- Identifying Purposes for the Collection of Personal Information
The Foundation makes available information about why it collects personal information directly from its donors and prospective donors. These include: for solicitation purposes; event registrations; and to keep donors informed of ongoing Belmont House activities.
- Obtaining Consent for the Collection, Use or Disclosure of Personal Information
The Foundation generally asks for individuals’ consent to collect, use, or disclose their personal information, unless the law permits or requires otherwise. It also provides ongoing opportunities for individuals to opt out of any future solicitations by the Foundation.
- Limiting Collection of Personal Information
The Foundation limits the collection of personal information to what it needs to fulfill the purposes it has identified to its donors and prospective donors. The Foundation collects personal health information only when it is volunteered by the donor, or as permitted by law.
- Limiting Use, Disclosure, and Retention of Personal Information
The Foundation does not use or disclose personal information for purposes other than those for which it collected the information, except with the consent of the person or as permitted or required by law. It retains the information only as long as necessary to fulfill those purposes. The Foundation does not trade, rent or sell any personal information to third parties.The Foundation’s web page contains a link to an online form that allows visitors to make an online donation. Online donations to the Foundation are processed through a third party known as Canada Helps. The security and privacy policies of this third party are available by clicking on the “Privacy and Security” icon on the online donation form. The Foundation’s web page also contains a link to the Foundation’s printable Donation Form. The personal information provided on these forms (such as credit card numbers) is used only to process these donations.
- Accuracy of Personal information
The Foundation takes steps to ensure that personal information is accurate, complete and as up-to-date as necessary for the purposes for which it is to be used. To change or modify any personal information previously provided to the Foundation, please call the Foundation at: 416-964-9231, ext. 238.
- Safeguards for Personal Information
Personal information is protected with security safeguards appropriate to the sensitivity of the information. The Foundation director and employees are bound by Belmont House’s Confidentiality policies.

A person may request access to his or her personal information held by the Foundation, challenge its accuracy and completeness, and have it corrected as appropriate.
