Frequently Asked Questions

Below are answers to some of the frequently asked questions we receive. If you do not find your answer below, please feel free to
Contact Us.

What does it mean if you are an A, B, C or D Facility?
This classification is a system used by the Ministry of Health for Long Term Care to rate physical amenities such as: room size and common rooms.

Can Residents have their own family physician?
Belmont House has four attending physicians who provide primary medical care and 24 hour emergency coverage. Residents may retain their family physician provided these physicians meet the standards and criteria for Long Term Care.

How long can Long Term Care residents leave for vacation?

Vacation leave is 21 days as allotted by the Ministry. Weekend leaves are unlimited and by combining vacation and weekend leave it is possible to be away for a 31 day period.

How long do we hold a resident's bed when they are admitted to
Acute care?

The bed is held for 21 days and if the Resident wishes the bed to be held longer, the bed holding fee as set by the Ministry is applied.

How does vacation work for Tenants?
It works exactly the same way it would for anyone renting an apartment under the Tenant Protection Act. As long as the rent is paid the tenant may choose to go away for whatever length of time and whenever he or she wishes.

When your name comes up on the waiting list how many times can you refuse a Long Term Care bed? Does your name go to the bottom of the list if you do?
In Long Term Care you cannot refuse a bed offer. If your name comes up and you do not take the bed, your name comes off the list and you must wait for 6 months before you re-apply. Your name would then go to the bottom of the list.

Can visitors who either walk in and/or schedule to have a tour of the facility have lunch in the Dining Room?
Certainly. Speak with our receptionist about making the necessary arrangements.

What is the difference between Basic and Semi-Private Accommodations at Belmont House? Do some share a bathroom, as the prices are different?
Basic is a room with two beds with a shared washroom. Semi-private is a private bedroom with a shared washroom. (The latter is on the 2nd floor of the east building for residents requiring lighter care.)

Does Belmont House accept smokers in any of their accommodations?

No. Belmont House is a non-smoking facility.

What is the ratio between Nursing Staff to Residents?
Care is provided by an inter-disciplinary team to meet the needs of our residents. Staffing levels are determined according to the care requirements on the units.
